NEXT RACE (Sunday July 29): From one big hill to the next, we’re off to One Tree Hill (meet at The Pits Car Park) for the Stephen Baird- sponsored King of the Hill – the race we seem to put on every year for Simon Gallagher! (Just kidding). It’s three kilometres from start to finish up the slippery slope and Simon will be out to make it five wins in seven outings at The Big Hill, which will be a herculean feat – and we suspect that he’ll add to that imposing tally in the many years still to come. Let’s look at it this way; if Simon sets out to target One Tree Hill (because, quite frankly, he’s the best at it) all the other races are left to the rest of us.
There is no race Sunday July 15, but the following week (Sat July 21) we venture to Trooper’s Camp, at Rose’s Gap, for the Logan Memorial over 10 kilometres. This is a combined race with the Stawell Amateur Athletic Club. Take special note that the start time is 2.00pm. BYO plate and thermos for afternoon tea.
From Ararat / Stawell take the Western Highway to a left turn (Roses Gap Rd) just east of Dadswell’s Bridge. Follow this road to Troopers Camp, via the Wartook / Roses Gap picnic areas. Take care, as the road is narrow in parts. Reduced speed is advised. If you find yourself at Dadswell’s, you have missed
